2017 Liebster Award Nomination

We’ve got some really exciting news to share: we’ve recently been nominated for the Liebster Award by one of our fellow travel blogger’s, Adri en Route. We’re so honored to be a part of the 2017 nominees and thankful that Adrienne nominated us! There are countless blogs out there and we’re so happy to know that even a few people are following along with ours and we’re so excited to see where Stay and Away will go in 2018.

What is the Liebster Award?

The Liebster Award is a digital award that was created by bloggers, for bloggers. It’s a great way to connect with other bloggers and support each other.  The word “Liebster” is a German adjective roughly meaning nicest, dearest, lovely,  pleasant. You can read the official Liebster Award rules here.

About Jessie’s Favorite Blog

Taylor has always been a bit more of a podcast lover (his favorite is Planet Money) than a blog reader, but I (Jessie) have been reading blogs for years and have always dreamed of becoming a blogger on my own. I have many favorites that I’ve been following along with for years (Skinny Confidential, Gal Meets Glam, LaurenConrad.com, and The Blonde Abroad to name a few) but, my current favorite is The Road Les Traveled. I love her style of writing and that she’s not afraid to be a woman on the road on her own. She’s a big inspiration to me and thousands of women around the world. Lately, she’s become even more inspirational as she’s undergone a double mastectomy surgery and has been very bravely sharing her experience with her readers and followers. I think it takes a special person to not only face a scary situation like that but to help others who have been through the same experience and openly share the good, the bad, and the ugly. If you haven’t been following along on her journey, it’s about time you do!

Q&A

What is one of your top travel tips?

T: Travel with people you like. (This sounds simple, but it’s really important)

J: Apply for TSA pre-check it’s ridiculously easy, makes the airport so much easier, and takes a lot of the hassle out of traveling.

Which is your favorite mode of transportation and why?

T: Subways and trains; they’re usually the quickest route and the best place to people watch.

J: I love the feeling of getting on a flight because you know you’re going somewhere exciting, but my favorite mode would have to be simply going in the car. You can go at your own pace and head wherever you want whenever you want. Plus, road trips lead to great memories!

What new skill or activity would you like to learn?

T: I want to learn how to scuba dive.

J: I’ve never been skiing or snowboarding so I’d like to learn that!

Where have you had an incredible meal lately?

T: At Il Pacioccone in “the red wine district” in Amsterdam; they have great lasagna.

J: I tried Sitti in downtown Raleigh this week and I was really impressed, but I also can’t wait to go back to this place in Durham.

What are some of your hobbies besides traveling?

T: Some of my hobbies are watching sports and keeping up with team stats, binge-watching Netflix, grilling new things for dinner, and walking or training my dog, Lily.

J: My hobbies are reading, cooking and baking, movies, and my pup as well, Trixie!

How has traveling changed your life?

T: Getting to experience and see different cultures around the world has changed my perspective on life.

J: Traveling has reminded me that the important things in life are the experiences rather than physical objects. It’s also brought me closer to the people I’ve traveled with and shown me new cultures that have broadened my tastes and beliefs.

What is the mission or vision of your blog?

Stay and Away is all about making the most of your life, whether you’re staying home (in our case, Raleigh, N.C.) or traveling far away. We’re blogging to share some of our favorite travel tips, destinations, lifehacks, restaurants, and things to do around North Carolina.

How did you learn how to start a blog? Did you take a course or do research on your own?

We haven’t taken any courses on blogging, so we have just been doing the research ourselves. It’s a bit overwhelming at times, but it’s also fun and a great chance to learn new skills!

What place is next on your travel bucket list?

T: Hawaii!

J: I’m indecisive and can’t narrow down to one place, so… Thailand, Switzerland, Italy, & Greece are at the top of my list!

Tea or coffee? What is your favorite tea/coffee drink?

T: Coffee… black coffee

J: Coffee! On a regular day, I typically just drink a few cups of coffee, but if I’m going for something special I’ll usually order a flavored latte.
